The Carved collection brings together Brosi's series with carved fronts. Artisans cut the pattern into the solid teak and work it with a chisel; the front is then finished by machine. Because the cutting is done by hand, the carving differs from piece to piece. Brosi designs the patterns and replaces a series with a new one after a while.
About Carved
The Carved collection brings together Brosi's furniture with carved fronts. Each series has its own pattern. Brosi designs these patterns; the furniture is made in Indonesia by artisans who work to Brosi's standard.
The furniture is made of high-quality teak and no other wood: it is solid through its full thickness, and nothing is built up to look thicker. The artisans cut the pattern into the solid wood and work it with a chisel. The carving is then finished by machine, so the lines run clean. Because the cutting is done by hand, the carving differs from piece to piece.
The series are built the same way and differ in their pattern. Intan has motifs of rings and ovals. A wavy relief or a pattern of round hollows runs across the doors and drawers of Wave. Drapery has vertical folds across the whole front, carved like draped fabric.
The teak is natural or given a dark finish. Intan comes in both: the dark tone is applied after carving, in a colour Brosi chooses. Wave and Drapery are left untreated; indoors the teak deepens in colour over the years.
Brosi changes the patterns over time. A series stays in the collection for a while and then makes way for a new design.
